Wells Fargo Partners with Junior Achievement of Western New York
(Williamsville, NY) – Junior Achievement of Western New York is pleased to announce a year long agreement with Wells Fargo in support of the JA Financial Literacy Education Pathway.
The JA Financial Literacy Education Pathway creates a continuum of progressive learning experiences, each inspiring, preparing, and ultimately enabling students to demonstrate the competencies needed to make healthy and informed financial decisions. This school year, JA of WNY anticipates reaching over 12,000 students in grades K-12 in the eight counties of WNY.
The Signature student learning experience in the Financial Literacy Education Pathway is the JA Stock Market Challenge Virtual, and Wells Fargo is this year’s Presenting Sponsor. High school students from all or WNY will have to opportunity to participate in a stock market challenge simulation for one month as part of their JA Take Stock in Your Future® program.
The purpose of the JA Stock Market Challenge Virtual learning experience is to give students a better understanding of trading strategies and portfolio management. Students will also learn how to use a variety of financial instruments, and their risks and rewards, as they apply to asset management. This challenge will take place for an entire month; November 2021 and April 2022.
Students will work as a team or individually and make their own trades using fictitious money based on real stock market activity, trends and analysis using a web-based platform. “Wells Fargo is proud to be the presenting sponsor of the Junior Achievement Stock Market Challenge. We admire the strong commitment of the Junior Achievement team to investing in the youth of WNY. To all the student participants, congratulations on taking this first step!” says Tara Handforth, Wells Fargo Market Executive, Upstate New York and Eastern Canada.
Laurie Mahoney, President of JA of WNY says, “Junior Achievement is committed to ensuring that all students have access to the skills and experiences that prepare them for future economic success. JA’s Digital First education platform and virtual volunteer delivery model allowed JAWNY to reach students wherever learning was taking place this past year. The mentoring support provided by volunteers was critical to helping students make the connection between what they are learning in school and how it translates into the “real” world of work. The strong and continued relationship between Junior Achievement, Wells Fargo and WNY area schools, businesses, community volunteers and funders provides the foundation needed to serve our area students during this year.”
